Welcome to the Shropshire Weightlifting Club Website. My name is Mike and I am a qualified BWL (British Weight Lifting) Weightlifting Senior Coach - with over 10 years experience as an athlete, instructor and referee (Please see "staff" for more info). My main aim is to help people of all abilities develop their full potential & provide enjoyable training ideas in a good training facility in Shropshire for everyone, in a safe and ethical/abuse free environment. It does not matter if you are a performance-orientated athlete or just participate for enjoyment. Sessions can be used to keep fit, or for developing strength, flexibility and explosiveness for other sports or to improve quality of life using the most fundamental weight training exercises. If you are interested in having some instruction, just send me an email (please see contact us page) prior to attending to ensure the class is running, and we can discuss individual plans.

What is Weightlifting?
"Weightlifting" is actually a very broad term. Many people think of weightlifting as any exercise involving free weights, but there is of course much more to it than that!
Commonly associated sports and exercises include:
* Bodybuilding
* Olympic Weightlifting
* Powerlifting
* Strongman (Strength Athletics)
* Multi purpose "Weight" Training
* Crossfit
All of which will be mentioned on the info page. Also coaching and facilities are available for adaptable training in all of these areas.

Want to become a future champion?
Whilst there are no guarantees in sport, success is much more likely when training begins at an early age. I started my lifting career at age 13 and I put most of my success down to the hard work I did in my youth as far as physical development. I can help guide children's training to ensure that they train at the correct intensities and form, promoting long term development fitness, technique and minimise any risk of injury. Private coaching with parental accompaniment may be the best option here.
Terms & Conditions
* Insurance: Prior to participation you will need to complete a PAR-Q form (this is a form which is used to assess your current health). Should you desire to also compete in a BWL (British Weight Lifting) competition, you will also need to join the BWL organisation which in addition covers you during training and competition. This will cover you for 1 year and is similar in Powerlifting and most other sports bodies.
* There is no lower age limit as such for who can train but I recommend that under 14's be accompanied by a parent or guardian during coaching sessions. If you have any questions or would just like to discuss this, you're very welcome to contact me on the email address provided.
* We are strict on Health and Safety but unless you already have Personal Indemnity Insurance, & are not a member of BWL you train at your own risk. We recommend you join the association as this insurance will cover you in case of accident/injury during your own training and training under coaches supervision.
* Payment fees for members should please be paid at the start of the session

What equipment do I need to train/join?
Essential equipment includes:
* Water - You must have some source of water when you train. Water is a vital nutrient for your body! note that there is a water fountain at the venue.
* Suitable Clothing - allowing for suitable range of movement etc. (no finger Jewellery, or unsuitable footware etc)
.
* Our completed Par Q/health, fitness and safety form. Note this can be completed prior to the session which will save time during your first session. This form will be issued to you when you contact us by email (please see contact us page) or alternatively can be filled in during your first session with us. Likewise upon booking private sessions, you can arrive at the venue early to warm up so that the full time is given to the content you want assuming you know what you're doing.
*** In addition, it's also helpful to know your goals before the session starts. I also recommend you bring a Diary/Record Book for recording your results, goals, and training sessions data.
